“Later (Joseph) also witnessed the homage of the Magi who came from the East (cf. Mt 2:11).” from “Guardian of the Redeemer” by St. John Paul II
After the shepherds, there arrived three Wise Men from the kingdom of the East. They had discovered a new star. Enlightened by the Holy Spirit they assembled their attendants and mounting their camels started on a long journey in search of the new-born, King of the Jews-the promised Messiah. For they were aware of the prophesy of Balaam: “A star shall rise out of Jacob, and a scepter shall spring up from Israel”. (Num. 24:17)
The three Kings followed the Star and soon “found the Child with Mary His Mother”. After adoring their God, their Savior and King, they presented Him with the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Let us meditate on this awesome mystery as St. Joseph witnessed the power of God being revealed to the small and the great alike.
